Mastercard – Contactless Tackle

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Head of Production | On-site Liaison | Testing & QA | Supplier Coordination | LED & Teslasuit Logistics | Installation Oversight

As part of Mastercard’s activation for the Rugby World Cup, fans were invited to step into the boots of a professional player — and feel the full force of a tackle in VR.

The live experience, installed in London’s Exchange Square, combined a Teslasuit (capable of simulating physical sensations) with a VR headset and LED screen environment. Participants held a real rugby ball while facing down virtual charges from Chris Robshaw, Maggie Alphonsi and Jason Robinson.

I led on-the-ground production, managing everything from installation to live testing (which, I’ll admit, was slightly painful). My role included overseeing supplier logistics, handling LED screen hire, managing the Teslasuit setup, and ensuring the site met health and safety standards. I also coordinated legal clearances, security, and smooth event flow throughout.

This experience merged haptic feedback with immersive visuals. Teslasuits were programmed to deliver pinpoint impact sensation, while a VR system rendered full player runs in synchronisation. A full LED wall provided onlookers with a cinematic view, creating a compelling public spectacle.

The result was a bold physical-digital hybrid — letting rugby fans truly feel what it’s like to be hit by a pro, without stepping on a real pitch.
